So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I enjoyed our numerous phone conversations, and Mike was very helpful in answering all of my questions. It was an honour to have spoken with him. He will be missed.

Sandy and I are saddened to learn of Mike's passing. We thoroughly enjoyed knowing him as neighbors in Florida during the winter. He was instrumental in guiding us in the creation of our first hot rod in 2008 and gave freely of his time and talents. Despite his iconic stature in the street rod industry, he was so very modest. The first time we met, he had no idea that I knew who he was. We talked for several minutes after I knocked on his door to welcome him to the neighborhood. Finally, I said, "Mike, I know who you are and I'm a big fan of your work." At that juncture, he invited me into his office and shared the highlights of his career with pictures and stories. I was absolutely awestruck to be in the presence of this rock star of street rods. Yet, he was so modest that he would occasionally stop and say, "Let me know if I'm boring you," then pull out another book or magazine and tell another story. Great memories. Great man. They broke the mold after Mike was born. Our deepest sympathy to Elaine and the family.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of such a great legend not only in the automotive field but former member of the ASC, Inc. family. Both Bill and I worked at the ASC North Jackson facility from 1984 through 1994. We would like to extend our sincerest sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this very difficult time of loss.

My only regret is that I hadn't met Mike earlier in life. I am proud to say that for the past 10 ~12 years I have gotten the opportunity to talk w/ him numerous times and I would walk away saying "WOW! The man is a mechanical genius and he makes it look so simple". Even more so he was always interested in what I had to say and also how he would down played the compliments that he so well deserved. I can only imagine on how many people have learned so much from Mike. I hope he realized that his wisdom has lead many car builders to design, engineer and fabricate on their own w/ a free spirit to build their dream and drive it away.

Most people say they work for someone, but with Mike, it was always work WITH him.
I met Mike and Larry in the early 70's while part of the "Early Times Street Rod Club" of Michigan.
I had followed their work as a boy building and customizing models till I was old enough to actually work on real cars. How did I know that some 15 years later Mike would hire me to work with him at ASC in the concept and show car part of the business.
After 20 years still with Mike overseeing just about everything I was involved with, in some fashion or another, I was always still learning from one of the "Masters of the Industry"
I can not be happier for that experience and the fact that not only was he probably the best boss I ever had, but to know he was a true friend as well.
My heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Mike's entire family, all of his friends and those of us fortunate enough to have worked side by side with such a great man!
He will be missed but his life in the custom car world will live on for ever.

Mike was a genuine legend and stalwart in the industry. It was truly an honor and a privilege to work with him throughout our careers at ASC. Mike kept in touch with us in recent years through frequent visits to our shop here at American Speed. His legacy will live on through those he touched over the years with his guidance and direction. We will all miss him greatly and remember him always....

What a great guy. I have many great memories working with Mike at ASC stores about the begining and the good ol days of custom car building. He always had a positive outlook & would take the time to help you if you ran into something that had you stumped. We had multiple discussions around many convertibles, benchmarking, lessons learned he was a great mentor over my years at ASC. I will mis running into Mike at the Auto Shows but, will always have great memories. Bob Fallis, Rochester, MI 21JL14

"I always really loved my Uncle Mike, as I got older and saw him less it was always special when the occasion arose to see him again! The most endearing think about my Uncle was the love I always saw him show my father, they were like 2 peas in a pod, different lifestyles but always saw that love between them, that meant so much to me!

Mike Senior,

You have a brilliant mind, gifted hands, a wonderful heart and smile. You set so many great examples... How to design. How to build. How to be. Know that your influences carry on beyond your years - and for that I am grateful. You and your family are in our hearts and prayers.
